The ‘Family Systems Model' suggests that individuals cannot be understood in isolation from one another. In working with the family we address very sensitive issues such as family rules and roles, communication dynamics, co-dependency and enabling and the concept of ‘boundaries' within the system.
The ‘Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy' (or CBFT) approach is firmly grounded on the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy model of psychopathology, and it seeks to restructure the family and the unhealthy behaviors that either contribute to, or encourage, the client's substance abuse. The therapeutic focus is placed on the reciprocal nature of family members' thoughts and beliefs about the addict and addiction, and the resultant behaviors and emotions.

Like any other residential facility, DARA runs a very structured and organized daily schedule in order to minimize stress amongst the clients. At DARA, your days will be a busy and productive combination of scheduled activities and individual written work. Most days start with something for the physical or spiritual you, such as a flexibility session, a water workout, or a morning meditation session. This is followed by a nutritious breakfast of fruit, cereal and cooked dishes.
From breakfast until dinner you will have a combination of Psycho-educational and Process Group therapy sessions, followed by a Thai massage, or a physical workout session with your personal trainer. You will also receive individual therapy sessions with your focal counselor, who will be a specialist in therapy for addictions. Dinner is followed by a ‘check-out' session, where everyone shares how their day went and what they did or did not accomplish, as well as any challenges faced and lessons learned for the day.
Check out is followed by an evening activity session and free time, and by 10 pm you will be in your luxurious villa having a well-earned and refreshing sleep, after another productive day!
On the weekends the pace is a little slower and whilst there are still group therapy sessions, the program also allows for some free time, where you can just relax and enjoy your tropical surroundings.
