Studies show that nearly 66% of individuals with a substance abuse issue have concurrent mental health issues. By providing treatment for all issues, in a holistic and highly individualized manner, DARA assures clients of the best chance for recovery.
DARA’s dual diagnosis treatment center provides a full-spectrum of evidenced-based and innovative treatment options, including medication management. In addition, we have highly trained and experienced specialists on staff who can provide care for multiple types of disorders. In the United States alone, nearly 9 million people have a dual diagnosis. Although dual diagnoses are common, many rehab centers do not address them at all, or to the degree implemented at DARA.
Understanding Dual Diagnosis Treatment
A dual diagnosis means that someone has a substance abuse issue that is present along with a mental health issue or issues. For some individuals, the uncomfortable or distressing emotional and mental symptoms led to using drugs or alcohol. Other clients developed mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression, during the course of their addiction. DARA’s dual diagnosis treatment is both specialized and highly individualized.
Co-occurring mental health conditions that are commonly seen with drug and alcohol abuse include:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Panic Disorder
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Bipolar Disorder
- Borderline Personality Disorder
- Schizophrenia
DARA has specialists certified in the care of dual diagnosis. In DARA’s pre-admission process, each potential client is assessed for dual diagnoses. At times, new issues are identified during residential treatment, and these become part of the comprehensive care plan. While DARA is able to manage most dual diagnosis problems, those with paranoid symptoms or certain other issues are not appropriate for our residential locations. In these cases, we are happy to provide referrals and assistance in locating a better option for treatment.
